The New Engagement Shoot

Gone are the days when engagement sessions are taken in a studio. Today's brides are taking them outdoors and thinking high-concept. Use these ideas to inspire an engagement session that's truly reflects your love for each other.

  • Bring fab furniture into meadows or abandoned buildings- creating that fashion-shoot feel
  • Copy of movie theme - think Up and use a giant bunch of balloons
  • Time periods - 50s fashion are very in right now
Places To Go: (you'll need permission and most likely have to acquire a photography permit)
  • amusement park or fairgrounds
  • an ice cream shop
  • a culinary school
  • a subway platform
  • playground swings
  • a science lab
  • a ski slope
  • your alma mater
  • a baseball stadium
  • an aquarium
  • a pumpkin patch
  • a bowling alley
Making the most of the session:
  • Pick a theme and dress the part - preppy, quirky, flirty, etc.
  • Avoid the hours between 10-2p when the sun is high and the lighting's unflattering
  • Choose a location that means something to you: your first date, where he proposed, your favorite hang-out
  • Bring props to add pose variety, flowers, sunglasses, 'Save the Date" or "I Said Yes!" signs
  • FLIRT! Pretend that you are on a date and the photographs will reflect the love you have for each other
